A column by Lanre Idowu said that if the media must continue to play creditably the positive role envisioned for it in a democracy such as we are building; journalists need to enrich their judgement and treatment. He maintained that journalists need to equip themselves to interrogate the social conditions much more deeply by challenging government to do more; by commending those who get it right and also commending alternate viewpoint outside partisan circles, and condemning them when they get it wrong.
